Understand Team Workload Distribution

Effectively managing team workload is crucial to ensuring balanced progress and avoiding burnout. Waydev’s Workload tab in Team Insights provides visibility into task distribution across team members. While currently focused on quantity, it offers valuable insight into how work is allocated and highlights potential imbalances in task management.
1. Review Task Status Allocation
➡️ Where: Team Insights > Workload Tab
Use this view to evaluate how tasks are spread across team members based on their current status.
What to look for:
- Team members with all tickets marked as Done, while others have many in Not Started or In Progress.
- Individuals with a large number of In Progress tasks — ideally, no one should be handling more than 2–3 tasks at once.
These patterns may signal uneven task allocation or workflow bottlenecks.
2. Check for Uneven Task Counts
➡️ Where: Team Insights > Workload Tab
This section helps identify workload imbalances at a glance.
What to watch:
- Noticeably higher or lower ticket counts for certain team members.
- Consider the limitations — this view only reflects quantity, not effort.
3. Analyze Workload by Task Type
➡️ Where: Planning > Resource Allocation
An additional useful view could be workload distribution by ticket type (e.g., bugs, stories, epics).
Potential insights:
- See who is handling the bulk of bug fixes, epics, or user stories.
- Identify if specific team members are consistently assigned high-complexity work.
This view would help balance expertise and avoid overloading individuals with one type of task.
Key Takeaways
- Use the Workload tab to spot early signs of imbalance in task distribution.
- Monitor task states to ensure work-in-progress limits are respected.
- Uneven ticket counts may require rebalancing to maintain consistent team productivity.
