Investment Balance

Investment Balance breaks allocation down by issue type, issue label, or epic. It does not use the allocation categories from Resource Allocation. Each tab ranks the values that already exist on your issues.

Open it from Planning → Investment Balance.

The page has three tabs:

  • Issue Types — Groups allocation by issue type, such as Bug, Task, Story, Incident, Epic, or Sub-task.
  • Issue labels — Groups allocation by the labels on issues.
  • Epics — Groups allocation by epic.

Changing tabs keeps the current filters and leaves any open drill-down.

Filters

The filters at the top apply to the chart, the table, and every drill-down.

  • Period — The date range. Buckets follow the granularity chosen in Settings.
  • Issues — Limit the report to selected issue collections.
  • Attributes — Limit the report to selected attributes.
  • Teams — Limit the report to selected teams.
  • View — Switch the unit between % and FTE. In percent view the table column is Allocation %. In FTE view it is Allocation FTE.
  • Settings — Set the granularity (day, week, or month, depending on the selected period).

Allocation chart

Each tab shows a stacked bar chart titled for the active grouping:

  • Allocation by Issue Types
  • Allocation by Issue labels
  • Allocation by Epics

Each series is one type, label, or epic. Labels appear on a segment when they fit. The tooltip lists every series for that period with its share.

Use the chart-type control in the top-right of the chart to switch between Stacked Bar (the default), Bar, and Line.

Allocation table

The table under the chart is titled the same way as the chart, for example Allocation by Issue Types. Its description reads: “Allocation and cost grouped by Issue Types” (or Issue labels, or Epics).

ColumnWhat it shows
TypeThe issue type, label, or epic name, with a rank badge such as Rank #1.
TrendA sparkline of that row across the selected periods.
IssuesNumber of issues in the group.
Story PointsTotal story points in the group.
Allocation % or Allocation FTEShare or effort, shown as a bar and a value. The header follows the View filter.
Est. CostEstimated cost for the group.
Last ActivityDate of the most recent activity.
ContributorsAvatars of the people who contributed.

Rows are ranked by allocation. Click anywhere on a row to open the collections inside that type, label, or epic.

Collection drill-down

Opening a row replaces the tab chart and table with the collections for that value. A stacked chart titled Allocation by {name} shows how effort inside that type, label, or epic is split across its collections. The same chart-type options apply: Stacked Bar, Bar, and Line.

The breadcrumb shows the path, for example Issue Types > Bug. Select the first crumb to return to the tab.

The collection table has:

ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe collection name.
FTEEffort for that collection, shown as a value and a bar.
Est. CostEstimated cost for the collection.
IssuesNumber of issues in the collection.
Story PointsTotal story points in the collection.
ContributorsAvatars of the people who contributed.
Last ActivityDate of the most recent activity.

Click a collection to open its issues. The breadcrumb extends, for example Issue Types > Bug > Development.

The issue table lists the issues in the selected collection. This step has no allocation chart.
