Waydev Git-Hooks & AI Telemetry Installer
an interactive POSIX bash installer script designed to configure Waydev AI Telemetry and Git Commit Hooks (Checkpoints) across one or multiple Git repositories in a target directory.
Installer script
It supports recursive repository discovery (finding repositories at any directory depth while skipping dependency folders like node_modules and vendor), and modular installation (allowing you to configure both features, Entire.io checkpoints only, or OTel telemetry configuration settings only).
The
bashscript is open source and can be freely reviewed (modify it at your own risk); extended documentation is also available in the archive, Drive download (script & extended documentation).
Prerequisites & OS Compatibility
Requirements
- git (Required) — For Git configuration and hook operations.
- node (Node.js) (Required) — Used for safe, portable JSON deep-merging and key manipulation.
- curl (Optional) — Needed only if auto-installing the entire CLI.
Supported Operating Systems:
- Linux / macOS
- Windows - must be run inside Git Bash or WSL2 (native CMD / PowerShell are not supported)
How to Run
Basic Interactive Usage (Install Mode)
Navigate to your workspace directory containing your Git repos (or run from anywhere and specify --dir):
./install-wd.sh./install-wd-windows.shThe script operates with a prompt-first UX: it asks for all configuration options upfront, displays a full summary, and requests final confirmation before altering any files.
Step-by-Step Prompt Flow:
- Installation Scope: choose whether to install Checkpoints only, OTel Telemetry only, or Both.
- AI Agents Selection (for OTel): Choose whether to configure Claude Code, OpenCode, or Both.
- Ingest Base URL (for OTel): Enter your OTel ingest URL (Default: https://ai.waydev.co:8000/).
- Bearer Token(s) (for OTel): Input the authentication token(s) for the selected agent(s).
- User Email Tagging (for OTel):
- Auto-detect: uses each repository's local git config user.email (with a prompt for a fallback email for repos without one).
- Fixed: uses one specified email address across all repos.
- Entire CLI Agent Tracking (for Checkpoints): Toggle which agents entire should track (claude-code, opencode, etc.).
- File Backup Option: Choose whether to back up modified files (Default: Yes).
- Target Directory: Specify the folder to scan (default: current directory). The script recursively finds all Git repositories located inside it, or detects if the directory itself is a repo.
- Repo Selection: Select/toggle which discovered Git repositories to process from an interactive checklist (displayed with relative paths, e.g. services/auth, frontend/web).
- Confirmation: Review the execution plan summary and confirm (y/N).
Extended Command-Line usage & options can be found in the included README.md file in the archive.
Uninstall Mode
To roll back changes and remove Waydev commit hooks, Entire settings, & OTel telemetry settings across repositories:
./install-wd.sh --uninstall./install-wd-windows.sh --uninstallWhat it removes:
- Author authored post-commit files or Waydev-fenced blocks within shared post-commit files.
- The wd_commit_hook executable script.
- Waydev configuration settings from .entire/settings.local.json (removes settings files/directories if they were created by the installer and become empty).
- Waydev-specific OTel environment variables from .claude/settings.json and .opencode/settings.json (removes settings files/directories if they were created by the installer and become empty).
What it keeps:
- The entire CLI binary remains installed. (Optionally prompts whether to run entire disable per repository).
What It Does
When executed, the script recursively scans a chosen directory for Git repositories and performs the following for each selected repository based on the chosen installation scope:
- Prerequisites Check: verifies that required system dependencies (git, node) and optional tools (curl, entire CLI) are available.
- Recursive Repo Discovery: locates all Git repositories at any subdirectory level (e.g., services/backend, packages/client, or the target directory itself).
- Displays repos with relative paths for clear distinction when selecting from the interactive checklist.
- Entire CLI Setup (Checkpoints): Prompts to auto-install the entire CLI if missing, and enables session tracking for chosen AI agents (e.g. claude-code, opencode, copilot-cli, cursor, gemini, factoryai-droid) and performs local setup / configure settings.
- Git Hooks Installation (Checkpoints): writes wd_commit_hook into the active Git hooks directory, safely creates or appends to post-commit to invoke wd_commit_hook without breaking existing hook managers.
- OTel Telemetry Configuration (OTel): deep-merges OTel telemetry configuration into .claude/settings.json and/or .opencode/settings.json; sets endpoint URLs, authorization bearer tokens, metrics intervals and user email.
- Safe Modifications & .gitignore Updates: creates timestamped backups (e.g., filename.wd-backup-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS) before modifying existing files.
- Automatically adds backup patterns (.wd-backup-), .entire/ directories, and untracked git hooks folders to .gitignore.
